ABOUT ESCAPE VELOCITY
Escape Velocity Cycling Club is for riders of all levels and abilities who share a commitment to improving their performance. For many years, we have been the primary organizer of cycle racing in the Lower Mainland and we proudly support one of the premier youth cycling development programs in the country.
Who are these clinics intended for?
These clinics are geared towards adult riders looking to improve their cycling knowledge and skills.
What experience level is needed for these clinics?
These clinics are for beginner to moderate-level riders. We recommened starting with the "riding basics" clinic if you are brand new to road riding.
Can children participate?
Unfortunately, these clinics are for participants aged 18+. If your child is looking for group clinics, head on over to https://escapevelocity.bc.ca/devo to check out the Escape Velocity Youth Racing Programs.
Is there instruction and skill training during the rides?
Yes, on-ride coaching and instructional guidance is given by Coach Barb Morris during each ride. See below for a brief bio on her cycling and coaching background.
How long does each session run for?
Approximately 2-3 hours.
Where do the ride clinics start?
Bicycle Sports Pacific's downtown Vancouver location. Meet outside the store, located at 999 Pacific St. (corner of Burrard and Pacific).
Do I need to sign a waiver?

"Learn To Ride" Summer Clinic Series
THE RIDING BASICS
May 14 • June 25 • July 23
Course Details: Be confident during your bike ride with handling skills for the new rider. Know your gears, as well as when and how to shift. Learn to brake and corner. Position yourself on the bike to stay balanced, pedal efficiently, climb up hills and descend down. If you enjoy riding with your friends or are looking to participate in a fondo alongside other riders, this group course is for you. Course led by Coach Barb Morris of Escape Velocity Cycling Club.

Course Details: Does it make you nervous when you’re on the road descending down a hill and a corner comes up? Even navigating some of the bike paths with their tight turns through traffic can be tricky, too. Practice those skills and become proficient and confident in taking the correct line the safest and best way possible with Coach Barb. You’ll amaze yourself!
HILL CLIMBING FOR FUN & FONDOS
June 4 • July 9 • August 6
Course Details: Learn how to be an efficient climber and fast descender! Bring your feet to the bike and your bike to the climbs, master the technique for fun and fondos, from short and steep to long and gradual climbs. Coach Barb gives you technique tips and constructive feedback you can implement right away.
TRAINING TO TRAIN
June 18 • July 16 • August 13
Course Details: Improve your fitness and your power on the bike with on-road bike training. This course will teach you how to train for speed and stamina. Keep in mind that these are moderate to hard sessions for new and moderately skilled road riders. If you have never ‘trained’ before, this one will show you the ropes in no time.
CLINIC NEED TO KNOWS
- Each clinic runs 3x, for a total of 12 sessions
- All sessions start at Bicycle Sports Pacific (999 Pacific St.)
- All sessions will take place on Sundays at 9:30am
The "Learn to Ride" Summer Clinic Series is operated by Escape Velocity Cycling Club (EV). BSP Bicycle Sports Pacific Inc (BSP) has no affiliation with EV and assumes no responsibility for the content, coaching and operation of the clinic(s).
All monies paid to BSP via bspbikes.com for clinic registration are collected on behalf of, and remitted to, EV Cycling Club without deduction.

I look at the athlete as a whole person, with a body, brain and bike, mix that together with the principles of exercise physiology, kinesiology, psychology and watch that athlete grow.”
Barb has been coaching for over 20 years, racing for over 25, and is passionate about bringing people to the sport of cycling as a newcomer, or helping riders with their goals of being the best they can be.
Some of her career highlights include 2016 BC Master Female Cyclist of the Year, 2016 American Games Road Race and Time Trial gold medalist, 2-time gold medalist in Road Racing at the Master's World Games, UCI Masters World Champion, and team member of the 3-time winners of the Gran Fondo.
